Sweet and Savory Rollups

Two recipes today, one sweet and one savory!

I used to make these rollups every couple of weeks when the kids were younger. Popular and super easy to bring in the car when you’re at sports practices and games. Swap out ingredients to match your family preferences. If they don’t like pepperoni, try ham and colby jack cheese. Or a slice of roast beef and provolone cheese. Or peanut butter instead of Nutella. But really, Nutella is the best, right?

First, the sweet:

Nutella Rollups

Great snack for kids or adults! Delicious bits of Nutella and light croissant in a small finger food. Keep these ingredients on hand for an easy last minute bite, or make ahead. Young children can bake these as long as they have a helper for the oven.

Ingredients

  • 1 tube crescent rolls
  • 1/2 cup Nutella hazelnut spread
  • 1/8 cup sweetener I use Stevia, but you can use sugar or another sweetener
  • 1 tsp cinnamon

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 375. (Adults or older children's job) Spray a baking sheet with cooking spray.
  • Open the crescent roll tube, separate them into 8 triangles and open them flat onto a countertop or cutting board. Mix the cinnamon and sugar (or sweetener) together in a very small bowl.
  • Spread about a tablespoon of Nutella onto the larger part of the triangle. (Now would be a good time to add a couple of banana slices if that sounds good.)
  • Starting with the wide edge, roll the triangle up toward the pointed end. Dip the rollup in the bowl with the cinnamon and sugar (or sweetener) until it's lightly covered all around. Place the rollup on the baking sheet.
  • Once all 8 are done, bake for 11-13 minutes until the rolls are golden brown. Let cool for 5-10 minutes and enjoy!!

Notes

Make these the night before and they’re an easy breakfast or snack, served at room temperature.

And the savory:

Pepperoni Rollups

Great after school snack! Satisfies the meat, cheese, and bread cravings with a savory taste. Not too filling that it will ruin their appetites for supper. Keep these ingredients on hand for an easy last minute bite, or make ahead and they can reheat. Young children can make these as long as they have a helper for the oven.

Ingredients

  • 1 tube crescent rolls
  • 1 package turkey pepperoni slices You can use regular pepperoni, but I always buy the turkey pepperoni version.
  • 8 mozzarella cheese sticks
  • 1/2 cup canned pizza sauce
  • 1 tsp italian seasoning

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 375. (Adults or older children's job) Spray a baking sheet with cooking spray.
  • Open the crescent roll tube, separate them into 8 triangles and open them flat onto a countertop or cutting board.
  • Spoon a little pizza sauce onto the larger part of the triangle. Place a few pepperoni slices on each triangle towards the larger end. Place one mozzarella stick over the pepperoni towards the wider end of the triangle. Sprinkle a little italian seasoning on top, if desired.
  • Starting with the wide edge, roll the triangle up toward the pointed end, and place the rollup on the baking sheet. Once all 8 are done, place the baking sheet in the oven and bake for 11-13 minutes until the rolls are golden brown and the cheese is melty.
  • Let cool for 5-10 minutes and serve with extra pizza sauce for dipping.

Notes

Make these the night before and kids can reheat them in the microwave for 10 seconds for an after school snack. Or send them in a lunch bag and they can be eaten at room temperature for an easy lunch. These are also good for bringing to sports games or practices for easy snacks.
