Sweet and Savory Rollups
Two recipes today, one sweet and one savory!
I used to make these rollups every couple of weeks when the kids were younger. Popular and super easy to bring in the car when you’re at sports practices and games. Swap out ingredients to match your family preferences. If they don’t like pepperoni, try ham and colby jack cheese. Or a slice of roast beef and provolone cheese. Or peanut butter instead of Nutella. But really, Nutella is the best, right?
First, the sweet:
Nutella Rollups
Ingredients
- 1 tube crescent rolls
- 1/2 cup Nutella hazelnut spread
- 1/8 cup sweetener I use Stevia, but you can use sugar or another sweetener
- 1 tsp cinnamon
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375. (Adults or older children's job) Spray a baking sheet with cooking spray.
- Open the crescent roll tube, separate them into 8 triangles and open them flat onto a countertop or cutting board. Mix the cinnamon and sugar (or sweetener) together in a very small bowl.
- Spread about a tablespoon of Nutella onto the larger part of the triangle. (Now would be a good time to add a couple of banana slices if that sounds good.)
- Starting with the wide edge, roll the triangle up toward the pointed end. Dip the rollup in the bowl with the cinnamon and sugar (or sweetener) until it's lightly covered all around. Place the rollup on the baking sheet.
- Once all 8 are done, bake for 11-13 minutes until the rolls are golden brown. Let cool for 5-10 minutes and enjoy!!

And the savory:
Pepperoni Rollups
Ingredients
- 1 tube crescent rolls
- 1 package turkey pepperoni slices You can use regular pepperoni, but I always buy the turkey pepperoni version.
- 8 mozzarella cheese sticks
- 1/2 cup canned pizza sauce
- 1 tsp italian seasoning
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375. (Adults or older children's job) Spray a baking sheet with cooking spray.
- Open the crescent roll tube, separate them into 8 triangles and open them flat onto a countertop or cutting board.
- Spoon a little pizza sauce onto the larger part of the triangle. Place a few pepperoni slices on each triangle towards the larger end. Place one mozzarella stick over the pepperoni towards the wider end of the triangle. Sprinkle a little italian seasoning on top, if desired.
- Starting with the wide edge, roll the triangle up toward the pointed end, and place the rollup on the baking sheet. Once all 8 are done, place the baking sheet in the oven and bake for 11-13 minutes until the rolls are golden brown and the cheese is melty.
- Let cool for 5-10 minutes and serve with extra pizza sauce for dipping.

Kelly Brakenhoff is the author of 15 books and a seasoned ASL interpreter. She splits her writing energy between two series: cozy mysteries set on a college campus and children’s books featuring Duke the Deaf Dog.
Parents, kids, and teachers love the children’s books and activity guides because they introduce ASL and the Deaf community through fun, engaging stories. And if you enjoy a smart female sleuth, want to learn more about Deaf culture, or have ever lived in a place where livestock outnumber people, the Cassandra Sato Mystery series will have you connecting the dots faster than a group project coming together the night before it’s due.
A proud mom to four adults, head of the dog-snuggling department, and grandma to a growing brood of perfectly behaved grandkids, Kelly and her husband call Nebraska home.
