May Book Club: Murder at St Margaret by Lynn Morrison

Murder at St. Margaret by Lynn Morrison

An academic mystery with magic set in Oxford, England?

Everything about the Oxford Key Mysteries immediately appealed to me, and I wasn’t disappointed.

Natalie is our brave protagonist who takes on the role of Head of Ceremonies at Oxford and discovers a magical cat wyvern, a dead body on her first day of work, and special powers that unlock family secrets she never knew existed.

I most enjoyed getting to know the faculty and staff and seeing the picturesque settings come to life through my mind’s eye. I look forward to getting to know the relationships and her new friendships better as the series continues. It felt like I was right there in Oxford walking alongside Natalie as she plans St. Margaret’s annual gala, helps figure out who killed the campus chef, and investigates the disrupted magic in Oxford. Picking out the nods to Harry Potter were also fun and nostalgic.

There’s an intriguing underlying mystery that ties the seven books together even though each book can be read as a stand alone. It’s available in Kindle Unlimited, Hoopla and Overdrive so readers have plenty of options. I already started on the next book in the series, and I highly recommend picking up your own copy now.

Lynn Morrison also has a new series out that looks like fun featuring Dora and Rex, a high society historical mystery series set in 1920’s London. Book one, Murder, I Spy is definitely going on my To Be Read list.

Kelly Brakenhoff is an author of eleven books and an ASL interpreter. She divides her writing energy between two series: cozy mysteries set on a college campus and picture books featuring Duke the Deaf Dog. The mother of four young adults and a hunting dog, and grandma to a growing brood of perfectly behaved grandkids, Kelly and her husband call Nebraska home.
