October Online Book Club: Furthermore by James M. Jackson
One down, six to go.
I liked Furthermore so much, I’m adding the first six books to my Want to Read list. My pile is getting out of control. At this rate, I know it may be a long, cold winter, but you will find me under a warm blanket reading.
Mix John Sandford’s Virgil Flowers and Robert Parker’s Spenser with a financial crimes investigator, and you’d get Seamus McCree.
Furthermore is set in Boston after what I’m guessing was a huge dust up with The Happy Reaper, McCree’s nemesis in the first six books. Suffering through physical therapy after being injured in the last book, Seamus is more likely to order Chinese takeout than cook himself a gourmet dinner. Helping solve a financial crime seems like a good use of his time. But from behind prison walls, The Reaper threatens his family, and suspense builds as Seamus races to protect his loved ones.
Although I haven’t read the previous books, in a short time I was up to speed and invested in the fully dimensional cast of characters. Jackson packs humor, twists, and turns into a novella size ride that despite its length included everything I want from a thriller.
I grew up reading books like these and look forward to reading them all in order. I definitely will recommend James Jackson to my father, and I bet my husband will want to start with Ant Farm, too.
Furthermore is available on Amazon, B&N, and anywhere you get eBooks, and also in paperback. I like to use Indiebound to order paperbacks from my local bookstore. Here’s the link.
Kelly Brakenhoff is the author of 15 books and a seasoned ASL interpreter. She splits her writing energy between two series: cozy mysteries set on a college campus and children’s books featuring Duke the Deaf Dog.
Parents, kids, and teachers love the children’s books and activity guides because they introduce ASL and the Deaf community through fun, engaging stories. And if you enjoy a smart female sleuth, want to learn more about Deaf culture, or have ever lived in a place where livestock outnumber people, the Cassandra Sato Mystery series will have you connecting the dots faster than a group project coming together the night before it’s due.
A proud mom to four adults, head of the dog-snuggling department, and grandma to a growing brood of perfectly behaved grandkids, Kelly and her husband call Nebraska home.
If you haven’t had entered the Goodreads Giveaway, here’s your chance to win one of three special copies signed by the author, illustrator, photographer, ASL signer, and story contributors! Good luck! [The fine print: giveaway is for US only]
